Hi. My name’s Adil. “Adil?” you ask the computer screen, “That’s a weird name. How’d you get it?” I’ll tell you.

I was born in Pakistan in my grandfather’s house. According to Islamic tradition, you hear the call to prayer shortly after birth. An old blind imam whispered the chant in my ears, and then because he was blind, ran his hands across my face. He told my parents to name me Adil, which in Arabic means “justice.” He said the name matched my face.

I bet that guy really has egg on his face now that I decided to become a copywriter instead of a police officer or judge or Batman. Thankfully, if he did have egg on his face, he wouldn’t know because he’s blind, and nobody would tell him because they wouldn’t want to incur a holy curse.
